Security Tag Reader Instructions

The Secure Tag Reader is not a end-user installable device. The reader unit must be installed by a qualified ABT certified technician.

First power on:

At first power on, the unit is set to ‘low security mode’.

It will respond to all ABT tags. This allows you to use an unlimited number of tags for low security areas of use by limited number of employees.

The Tag Reader places itself in “over-ride mode” when power is first applied to it. For example, when MyControl is powered up or if a power failure occurs the tag reader will come back on (if the ON/OFF key is in the on position) in “over-ride mode.

Getting to know your tag reader

What is located on the tag reader front panel

Status LEDs are located at the left front side. Top LED, red in color, indicated by-pass on. Center LED, green in color, indicates when water functions are operational. Bottom LED, red in color, indicates when a program function is in progress. As an example, this programm LED will flash when a tag has been accepted at programming or to activate the MyControl water functions. The power ON LED is located at the front bottom right corner of the Tag Reader. The “Access” key switch located on the front panel allows activation of the by-pass and program push buttons.

What is located on the right side of the Tag Reader unit

The top red push button switch activates and deactivates the by-pass function. The middle black push button switch is used to program and erase tags. The key switch at the bottom is used to turn the tag reader on and off and to reset the unit to low security default mode (unit will accept all tags).

Learning a tag to the unit:

You can learn up to 25 tags to the unit (high security 64-bit code). Once a tag has been learned to the unit, the low security mode is no longer active i.e. the unit will only respond to the learned tags.

To learn the first tag:

  • Turn the “Access” switch keylock (located on tag reader front) clockwise to on position
  • Press and hold the black program push button switch located at the tag reader right side
  • Hold the tag to be programmed in proximity to the reader front
  • The red Program LED (located on front of tag reader) will pulse twice and a tone will sound, to indicate that the tag has been stored
  • Keep the button pushed until the red LED has pulsed at least once
  • Release the black program button
  • Turn switch key lock to off position

The Secure Reader will now accept programmed tags only.

To learn more tags:

  • Turn the “Access” switch keylock (located on tag reader front) clockwise to on position
  • Press and hold the black program button located on side of unit
  • Hold the tag in close proximity of the Tag Reader front
  • The red program LED will pulse and a tone will sound, to indicate that a tag has been stored
  • Release the program button
  • Turn “Access” key switch keylock to off position

A total of 25 tags (cards) can be stored. If the memory is full, the red program LED and a tone will pulse 5 times.

To erase a tag:

  • Turn the “Access” switch keylock (located on tag reader front) clockwise to on position
  • Press and hold the black program button located on side of unit
  • Hold the tag to be erased in close proximity to the Tag Reader front
  • The red program LED will pulse and a tone will sound, to indicate that a tag has been erased
  • Release the program button
  • Turn “Access” key switch keylock to off position

Once all tags have been erased, the unit will revert to ‘low security’-mode. It will accept all ABT tags.

To erase all tags and return to ‘low security’:

  • Turn “Access” switch keylock to on position
  • Turn ON/OFF switch keylock (located on side of tag reader) counter clockwise to off position
  • Press and hole the program button
  • While still holding the program button, turn the ON/OFF switch keylock clockwise to on position
  • The red LED and a tone will pulse 3 times, to indicate that all tags have been erased
  • Release the program button
  • Turn “Access” switch keylock to off position

The unit is now set to ‘low security’-mode. It will accept all ABT tags.

Operation of MyControl Bathing System once tag has been accepted:

Pass a programmed tag in front of the Secure Tag Reader. Once a tag has been read and accepted, the green “operate” LED located between the red program LED and the By-pass LED will illuminate, indicating that MyControl water functions are activated and ready for use. The unit allows a predetermined ‘use time’ that is set as directed by the owner of MyControl. This timed use period must be programmed internally and is not a end-end user specific programmable function.

All MyControl Bathing System water function operation will be prevented at the end of the pre-programmed use time period. This is done for security purposes so that the unit can not be left activated while the Bathing System is unattended. If the pre-programmed use time period elapses during operation, pass a security tag in front of the tag reader to start ‘use time’ again.

Operating MyControl Secure Tag Reader in “by-pass” Mode

Activation of water functions without tag swipe can be done by placing the reader in “by-pass mode”. To place the reader in “by-pass mode”, turn the “Access” switch keylock clockwise to ON position. Press and release the red “by-pass” push button switch located at side of tag reader. Turn the “Access” switch keylock counter clockwise to the off position.

NOTE: The tag reader will toggle between “by-pass ON and OFF each time the “by-pass push button is pressed (while “Access” switch keylock is in ON position).

Always remember to return the “Access” switch keylock to it’s off position. This will prevent unauthorized programming and erasing of tags. Store both switch keylock keys away from the tag reader area and in a secure place readily available to authorized persons.
